Hargreaves Lansdown Names New Tech Chiefs

Richard Flint, the outgoing chief executive, explained that the appointments followed a thorough external search.

He expressed excitement about blending the firm’s massive market scale with strategies from the US, where technological innovation and digital engagement have successfully encouraged more everyday people to invest. Flint noted that the incoming leaders will play a central role in guiding this next chapter for the company.

The two new executives will officially take up their roles in Bristol on September 1. Charles Thompson, the incoming chief technology officer, previously oversaw technology for Vanguard International across Europe, APAC, and the Americas, as well as holding leadership positions at National Australia Bank. Meanwhile, Michael Finnegan will step into the role of chief transformation officer, bringing experience from several senior leadership positions at Vanguard, including head of international strategy.

These leadership changes represent a major step for the Bristol-based wealth management giant as it focuses heavily on its digital capabilities. By bringing in leaders with extensive experience in the competitive US retail investing market, the platform hopes to significantly enhance its technology, data infrastructure, and overall client experience.

The incoming executives are set to replace Richard Hebdon, who currently serves as chief digital and technology officer, and Darren Worth, the chief strategy and transformation officer.
